Thursday January 7, 2016, at 1830, eight members were present. Minutes were read. Benny Duett made motion to accept minutes. Bob Perna seconded and minutes were approved. CORRESPONDENCE: Bill Lamar is stepping down as Dept. adjutant/paymaster. Pat Tudor will be his replacement at paymaster. Adjutant replacement will be determined at the state meeting. Mid-winter National Conference to be held in March. REPORT OF PAYMASTER: Beginning balance was $1,960.43. There was only a deposit of $12, which brings the end balance to $1,972.43. Benny made motion to accept the financial report. Robert Barfield seconded. Motion carried. REPORT OF ANY MEMBER OR MEMBERíS FAMILY SICK OR IN DISTRESS: Benny will be having surgery to remove a mass in his lung January 25. Robertís wife will soon have another procedure to remove blockage in her heart. REPORT OF OFFICERS: Benny stated that Dr. Walker, Director at Jackson VA Hospital, fielded many questions from veterans on November 17, 2015 at a local town hall meeting. Benny also said that the Veterans Day program at SE school was great as always. Virgil Cole commented that the Marine Corps Ball some of us attended was very nice with a good ceremony. REPORT OF STANDING / SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: We discussed ways to improve recruiting efforts for the Detachment and Ladies Auxiliary. We will continue to come up with recruitment strategies at next monthís meeting. Also, the Marine Corps license plates in Mississippi are doing well. Proceeds from the sale of the plates go to help family members visit their injured Marines. GOOD OF THE LEAGUE: None. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Benny announced that on April 2 the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home luncheon will be held at the Frank Cochran center. The next state meeting will be Saturday, January 16 at 0900.
